Cruising Through The Holiday

Belize Navidad, Happy Holidays

Traveling on a Christmas cruise during the holidays is so much FUN! Here’s what to expect: You will sing Christmas carols with your fellow shipmates—the cruise director leads the carols. I have been on two Christmas cruises and had a wonderful time on both cruises. The first was Christmas Day in Puerto Rico, and the second Belize. Again, I  want to go on another holiday cruise. Lastly, next time, I will bring more family with me. I love a holiday cruise.

Later in this post, I would like to explore some strategies to do just that. Furthermore, on one of the trips, we had a crazy Australian cruise director who wore different Christmas Holidays socks and sweaters each day of the trip. Dressing in holiday garb is enhances the experience. In addition, I saw one passenger in a suit coat with lights built into it. Leave the ugly Christmas Holidays sweaters at home, though. Hopefully, it will be too warm for that. Do bring decorations for your cabin door to add that special holiday touch.

Festive Atmosphere in Puerto Rico, Belize Christmas Day Holidays

Passengers go all out. Flashing light necklaces and antlers are necessary. It is noteworthy to be in port on Christmas day. It allows you to see how people in various places celebrate this particular time of the year. I went on a tour of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Christmas day. The second Christmas day was spent in Belize exploring Maya ruins.                                                                                      Discover the Amazing Mayan Ruins. Go Happy Time Traveling

My wife and I had some unique local dishes while in Old San Juan Christmas’s Day lunch. The dish is called Mofongo, a mixture of green plantains, chicharron, olive oil, and garlic. There was also a side of rice with gondules peas. It was amazing. The main dish was roast pork garnished with sweet plantains on the side. I love Hispanic food. Part of my wife’s family is from Cuba.Cuban cuisine is similar to Puerto Rican.I enjoyed seeing dish variations while in Puerto Rico and Belize during the Christmas cruise.

We sat at the counter like the locals and had a feast. This is working people’s food. There is no way I could eat like that every day. We finished with a tres leches cake and cafe con leche. I was ready for a nap after that meal. It was so good. Talking about it makes me hungry.

A Christmas cruise is a must during the holiday, and visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico, made it memorable. A Christmas cruise with these unique dishes enhanced the entire travel experience.

In Puerto Rico, I expected the locals to stay with their families.

It was quite the opposite. The streets were filled with people celebrating, making it a festive time. The ship was also extensively decorated with ice sculptures of Santa and his sleigh made by the kitchen staff, along with watermelons carved into holiday-themed creations. Despite the holidays, the excursions continued as usual without any disruptions. Please add these suggestions to your Checklist. You can find the post below.

Cruise Check-Checklist

You Could Stay Home and Eat Left Over Ham and Turkey

Why? Christmas cruising is about choices. Sure, you could have Ham and Turkey. Then again, you could have Lobster. Yes, as much as you want. I was talking to a man who had eight lobsters on Christmas Eve. He was a tall, skinny man. I have no idea where he put those lobsters.

I had three and was maxed out. All the food during the holiday week was spectacular. It seems like the kitchen was on its A-game. As mentioned, the Staff carved all kinds of things with a holiday theme. The kitchen staff loved the holidays even more than the passengers. The desserts were especially over the top.

Christmas Day-the Holidays

On another trip, we spent Christmas Day in Belize, exploring Mayan ruins and visiting a rum distillery. Hot toddy, anyone?Ho, Ho, Ho. Temperatures were excellent, with no sweat. The holiday season is when most passengers leave many feet of snow behind.

I live in Florida. I could not relate to stories about air travel delays due to icing problems. On Christmas morning, many folks wear their holiday cruise pajamas for breakfast. You will see whole families dressed alike in Christmas PJs. What a lovely family portrait that will make. You would think being away from home for a Holiday Cruise was brutal. I argue it to be more enjoyable.

Convince Family And Friends to Join You

For one thing, you do not need to fight the crowds at the grocery store. No cooking or cleaning is required. Does all this sound good to you? Think about this: the less time you spend doing the preparations, the more quality time you have with your family and friends. That is priceless for winter folks who dress in five layers of clothing. That is before you shovel your car out of the snow. Think how that suntan will look when you get home. You will be the envy of everyone you know.

This is not a hard sell. In addition to the quality time spent with your family and friends, think of the warmer tropical destinations. Tee shirts, bathing suits, and flip-flops, not layers of clothing to bog you down. Think of the videos and phone calls you can send your family and friends at home.

Not Hard To Convince

“Hi guys, it’s hard work, but someone’s got to lay on this beach in fill-in-the-blank.” YOU SET THE HOOK next year when you do your second holiday cruise; they will be with you on the beach. Consider giving a cruise to your family or friends as a gift. Save time searching Amazon and the box stores for that special gift. Ok, I get it.

Save For The Trip

You are not a millionaire, and neither am I. As an incentive, give a set amount towards the trip. This will make it irresistible; who could say no? No worries; they will have to join you in the festivities. You would have to work hard to have a bad trip during this kind of holiday cruise. Everyone was in a great mood.
