This award-winning port was voted the number-one port in the U.S. by Cruise Hive in 2023. This prestigious honor has been given to Port-Canaveral 4 years out of the five years that the award has existed. This recognition speaks to the consistency in many areas that matter to cruisers.
In addition, the award communicates a prominent level of customer satisfaction.

Port PreferencesÂ
There are many reasons why a port has favor in cruise passengers’ eyes.
Here is a brief list of items that matter to cruise passengers.
Â
 Favorable AttributesÂ
The Why Explained
Look at these attributes and see how they contribute to Port Canaveral being voted the number one port of choice.
Location Location Location
Port Canaveral is in coastal Brevard County, located in central Florida.
The Orlando Airport services Port Canaveral with many daily shuttles.Â
The airport offers many daily nonstop flights from anywhere worldwide.Â
Entertainment Capital
Orlando is one of the largest entertainment capitals in the world. The city is number two, just behind Las Vegas, NV. This status commands the airlines to offer great flight options and value. Over seventy-four million people travel to Orlando each year.
Shuttles from the Airport to Port Canaveral
There is a regular shuttle service from the airport to the port.
Check out the hotels in and near Merritt Island that offer snooze and cruise packages. There are many exceptional hotel packages to choose from.
Location Great for Florida residents
I live in North Florida, and Canaveral is my first choice. It is 4.5 hours from my home.

Parking
There are plenty of affordable parking options available near the port. I prefer parking off-site at places like Go-Port. The shuttle ride to the port is quick and easy. Several other offsite parking locations exist, such as Rightway Parking, Park and Cruise, and Patriot Port Parking.
Offering customers many choices is a simple way to enhance their satisfaction. This, in turn, contributes to an overall positive cruise experience. These offsite parking options have varying prices, typically differing by a dollar or two. Try one out for yourself and be the judge of which one suits your needs the best.
Security
Every lot and walkway is marked and well-lit.
There is security around the clock. You will notice security personnel and uniformed local law enforcement everywhere.
These four attributes help make this port 2023 voted the best Cruise Port in the U.S.
Last year’s record-setting 6.8 million cruisers passed through Port-Canaveral.
Orlando Extension Before or After Your Cruise
Before Getting Started-Currency Exchange
If you are visiting the U.S. and need currency exchange.
As always, do not use the currency exchange at the airport in any country. This is usually the worst rate of exchange worldwide. These places take advantage of travelers.
Better Exchange Option
While in Orlando, I recommend visiting one of the many Malls where exchange Kiosks are conveniently located.
I have personally used these exchange services and found them to be reasonable. I recently went to Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
I had no trouble exchanging U.S. dollars for Forints, Koruna, or Euros.
You should not have any problem exchanging your country’s currency for U.S. Dollars at a fair exchange rate. Please look on the net to get the closest location to you. Also, check the hours of operation.
So many options, so little time- deal or no deal
Orlando is the number two playground in the world.
If someone could think it up, it would be offered. Considering this statement, the rest comes down to Money and Time.
If you are like me, you want to stretch that money as far as it will go.
Is this your mantra?
If so, discount coupon books are available at most restaurants, hotel lobbies, and tourist/ticket information Kiosks. Merchants pay advertising dollars to make the books available for the taking. Who does not like a deal?
I love the two-for-one deal. In the U.S., it is called BOGO—Buy One, Get One.
Theme Park Tickets
Purchasing discounted multi-day passes to Theme Parks is also a good option. Often, there are savings associated with this kind of deal.
Additional Savings Concepts
Senior discounts are always lovely.
This may include discounts for goods, services, and Restaurants. When traveling in the E.U., I took advantage of the senior discounts on public transportation. Prague had free transportation for people over sixty.
Family Discounts
Often, small children discounts are offered.
At any rate, it is a competitive market.
Orlando merchants and vendors are competing for your tourist dollars. Look for the deals they are out there.
Lots of Shopping
Look for the Outlet Mall near you. There are so many of them in Orlando.
I recently stayed at the Orlando Grand Hilton Resort, with a back gate open to an Outlet Mall. That was very convenient. That outlet mall had an excellent food court.
Visit Millennium Mall. There are lots of interesting shops there, even an Apple Store.
The Millennium Mall is just around the corner from IKEA.
If you have never experienced IKEA, you should visit one, even if it is only for a nutritious Scandinavian meal. The food is reasonable and delicious.
Dining Options
Orlando is an international city. You can find a large variety of foods to choose from.
There are so many choices. The dining experience can range from eating at a Cheesecake Factory to a small mom-and-pop family restaurant.
I would go online and get recommendations.
Orlando in the Summer-Hot -Hot-Hot
Cool down with a visit to a Water Theme Park. Here are four to choose from.
A water park is perfect for spending time with your children when it is hot, beating the summer heat. Make sure that everyone has sunscreen and coverups.

Respect For the Florida Sun -Sunscreen and Coverups
I suggest these measures while doing anything outside during the summer months in Florida.
The Florida sun is intense and needs to be respected. Sunburns are not fun and can put a damper on your holiday. In addition, they’re not good for your skin.
